The Full Story

Samuel Reid is a landscape and portrait photographer living on the immaculate beaches and subtropical climates of Gold Coast, Queensland. Samuel’s love for nature and the outdoors is shown through his desperation to wanting to escape from reality and conformity. Not only does he love nature and the environment but, loves interactions and creating connections with new people that he meets. His unique perspectives and creative imagery are truly exemplified within his compositions, whilst highlighting the beauty of our natural world. Samuel hopes to express the splendour and curiosity of God’s creation through his Australian landscapes and portrait compositions.

Samuel’s love for art and creativity started from an early age in his childhood. Growing up in old modern-day suburbia, Samuel felt like he was living in a trapped, compressed and secluded environment. Although making the most of his early stages in life, Samuel would take every opportunity to explore and stumble into the midst of nature. Having a close relationship with his Grandad, Samuel valued spending time with him, drawing, and painting, whilst looking for bugs and small life in their backyard. Although, after the death of his Grandfather, Samuel kept hold of every creative and artistic experience he had, pursuing an interest in the wonders of nature and the outdoors.

Samuel’s love of photography started with a bushwalk into the rainforest leading to a waterfall. Having a friend with him, taking photos and capturing every moment along the journey, Samuel’s creative mind sparked with thoughts and ideas. Journeying through this fairytale landscape, witnessing the vibrant cool colours, flowing streams and glistening waterfalls, Samuel felt a peaceful presence at heart. After his experience in the outdoors and being completely immersed in nature, Samuel sought more inspiration from Sean Scott and Annemarie DuPreez, which led his photography to new places.

Since then Samuel’s life fled to new heights, having been to many iconic places around Australia and many Islands such as Fraiser Island, Moreton Island, Green Island and Whitehaven Island. Samuel has experienced a new world where he can express his artistic creativity through his landscape photography. Although, having been to all these places, Samuel still struggled with transportation where he had to keep reliving in a trapped, conformed environment. With the memory of being surrounded by that rainforest nature with the symphony of raindrops trickling down the luscious leaves and being completely immersed in that presence, Samuel was at peace. His need to escape the hustle and turmoil of this life became a part of his identity and photography.

Eventually, new doors opened and opportunities were created. Samuel had bought his own car, where he could keep returning to those magical places that he had experienced before. Having gone back to these nature reserved places, having captured many more landscapes and meeting new people, his photography journey has been filled with excitement and experience.
